I saw this piece at LACMA, when I was in the Los Angeles area this past January. It reminds me of an abstracted aerial view of a very colourful cityscape. Although this piece is minimal, the focus remains on choosing complimentary + contrasting colours and the placement of the blocs.
I’m lucky that I live only a few T stops away from Kelly’s “Blue Green Yellow Orange Red” piece, which is located in Contemporary Wing at The MFA. Ellsworth Kelly has a special place in his heart for Boston given his time spent at School of the Museum of Fine Arts (where I’m an alum). It’s pretty cool to know that I’ve painted in possibly some of the same studio rooms as one of the world’s most acclaimed living artist.
