Artist Obsession : Simone Shubuck

These drawings are from Simone Shubuck’s exhibition Do You Like Old Things or New Things That Look Old? which was on display this past summer at Taylor de Cordoba in Culver City. With the artists new energetic works on paper, Shubuck thinks about societies relationship with the past and expresses that oftentimes what we think of as “new” is really old ideas re-generated, recycled or “knocked off.” Nothing is completely new.

I love the playfulness and collage like quality exhibited in these paint, crayon and pencil drawings. They have a nice youth about them.
