When did the idea of Uprise Art pop into your head? People spend a great deal of time and money on their apartment and it doesn’t usually represent them. I know artist would love for their work to be displayed in homes. I wanted to create a space for these artists to showcase their art and give people a resource to access affordable artwork at the same time.
So many cityscapes magnify the industrial buildings, I like how Ashok Sinha’s Los Angeles, California brings the viewer’s attention to the presence of the sky.
I read in an article Manhattan is your favorite city (great choice!). What part of The City do you find most inspirational? I love how Manhattan is a different city to different people. You can walk 10 blocks and feel like you’re in a completely different space. Some days I find Manhattan to be relaxing and others the business is very fast pace. I love the way artists are able to create their own little world in the big world of NYC. You can never get tired of Manhattan, there is always some element that will make you energetic and happy. For instance, some days it’s nice to take a vacation day in the city and discover a new neighborhood.
Diana Delgado is one of my favorite artists period. I love her use of colour and enjoy the way her sense of humor comes out through her titles (hence the name of this vibrant piece, Smelly Yellow). Her Artist Bloc will be featured on C.B. in the near future!
How do you choose the artists you showcase on Uprise? It’s important to me to show artists whose work I’m passionate about and want to collect personally. I also work with curators I am fond of and really value their opinion. I focus on offering a wide range of diverse mediums in the gallery as well.
Advice to young artists interested in getting their name out there? Be positive and believe anything is possible. Recognize that by being an artist you’re volunteering to not play it safe career wise. Have drive and ambition, the artist who makes it understands that you make everything happen on your own.
Browse through the Uprise gallery and pick a piece to add to your collection. If you mention “Colour Bloc” when you sign up for your Uprise membership, Tze is throwing in complimentary delivery + installation on your first artwork order!
Excellent (and very true) advice, Tze. I don’t think it can get much better than $50 per month (that’s like dinner + a few cocktails in Manhattan?!) to rent a gorgeous painting!
Today is the day my posts go up on a few other lovely blogs. To add another dose of colour to your Thursday, check out Studio Swoon by ever swoon and Shop Talk by Small Shop Studio. Thanks ladies for showing Colour Bloc some love! ![]()
